Jean-François Weber, founder of GreenGT, shared his vision for sustainable mobility at the “2050 we are_ DEMAIN” event. He believes the future of transportation lies in environmentally friendly energy solutions, particularly hydrogen vehicles for high power. Sixteen years ago, Weber left the internal combustion engine sector, seeing the future in electric vehicles and seeking optimal energy storage methods.
He emphasizes that while batteries are suitable for personal electric cars, they are not viable for professional vehicles like trucks, planes, and ships due to their weight and limited range. GreenGT has thus focused on hydrogen fuel cells, a clean technology that only emits water. Weber stresses the need to develop hydrogen production and distribution infrastructure to reduce costs and facilitate adoption.
Weber is optimistic about hydrogen’s future, which could provide Europe with energy independence and coexist with batteries to meet different needs. He calls for political and industrial support to overcome current challenges related to cost and infrastructure.
